New to massage? Here are some commonly asked questions about massage and their answers:
Do I have to take off my clothes?
Yes and no.
Massage is most effective when the therapist can contact your skin, but every experienced massage therapist can treat you while you’re still dressed. In fact, seated massage is a technique that is performed with the client fully clothed.
In table massage, we ask that you disrobe as far as you are comfortable.
Again, your massage will be more effective if I can contact the skin, but in this – as in everything during your session – you are in charge.
You will disrobe and get on the massage table in private, covering with the provided sheet. During your session, only that part of your body being worked on will be exposed. Everything else will be covered, or draped, with the table sheet.
Does massage hurt?
Yes and no.
In a relaxation (Escape) massage, the massage will be firm, but not deep and should not be painful. However, when tissues are very restricted, just about any touch can be painful.
In deeper and more concentrated therapeutic work, massage can be quite intense.
It’s important that you communicate with your massage therapist when touch is too intense.
Remember, you are in charge of your session; don’t suffer in silence.
Will I be sore after my massage?
You can be – depending upon how restricted your tissues are, and how intense a session you had. Any soreness you feel should be akin to the soreness you’d feel after working out, and only last a couple of days.
Drinking plenty of water before and after a massage session will help with soreness.
Is it OK if I fall asleep during my massage?
Certainly.
I’ll wake you gently when your time is up. There's no extra charge for snoring.
What if I'm overweight or embarrassed about my body?
Massage therapists have seen bodies in every imaginable shape and size, from young to old. We’re professionals who have found massage to be a wonderful gift to give to men and women alike, regardless of age and weight, and are proud of the healing – physical, emotional and spiritural – that touch brings.
Am I supposed to tip?
Tipping is a matter of personal discretion. Some of my clients do, most don’t. You will get the same level of excellent service whether you tip or not. Tips are never expected or required. One of the best ways to "tip" me is to refer your friends and family to me for massage.
